The easiest way to sell a loan transfer is to show a smaller EMI. The useful way to judge it is to ask what you will pay from today until the debt ends.
Why EMI is not the decision
A lower EMI can come from a lower rate. It can also come from extending the tenure. Those two situations may feel identical in the first month and produce very different total costs.
Do not stop at
“My EMI will fall by ₹2,000.”Continue to: “How much interest will I pay next year, how much interest remains in total, what will the full payout be, and what will the transfer itself cost?”
The five numbers to compare
This makes the immediate effect visible without pretending that annual interest remains fixed for the whole loan.
Compare the interest from today, not interest already paid in earlier years.
Outstanding principal plus future interest gives the full remaining payout.
Include processing, legal, valuation, documentation and other applicable costs actually quoted for the case.
This is the number that shows whether the transfer creates a meaningful financial difference.
Why annual interest changes
Most repayment loans use a reducing balance. As principal falls, the interest charged in later periods also changes. That is why one fixed annual-interest figure cannot accurately describe every remaining year.
A year-by-year schedule is more honest. It shows the estimated interest under the current loan and the proposed route for each year of the remaining tenure.
For floating-rate EMI loans, RBI guidance requires lenders to communicate the impact of rate resets and provide borrower options within the applicable framework. The Key Facts Statement and the final sanction terms are important because the proposed rate, annual percentage rate and charges should be read together.
Transfer costs and break-even
A transfer can show a positive total saving and still take time to recover the upfront cost. The break-even period estimates how many months of EMI difference are required before the entered transfer expenses are recovered.
A plain-language decision test
Ask one final question:
From today until closure
After every known cost, how much less will I pay, and what new conditions am I accepting to get that saving? The answer should include the rate type, remaining tenure, top-up implications, fees and any operational reason for moving the relationship.
The LoanLala calculator is designed around this complete comparison. It remains an indicative self-check. The receiving bank’s sanctioned terms are the figures that ultimately matter.
